1955 Gibson Sunburst Super 400 CES.

Gibson Super 400 CES models from 1955 are extremely rare with only 5 listed to have been shipped in Sunburst that year.

This 1955 Super 400 features a carved spruce top and a stunning bubble carved maple back. Complete with a beautiful original and near perfect "marble guard " plus all other correct fittings and hardware. It is estimated that only 120 Super 400s were produced with Alnico pickups in the 1950s.

This guitar shows some honest playing wear and has a professionally repaired jack socket. However, with such a low production total, and having the Alnico pickups, it’s a rare guitar and it is not like one can easily "go find another "

Gibson archtops guitars were made in very small quantities in the 1950s, and they almost amount to "Art". Gibson craftsmen carefully selected the special woods needed for these top-of-the line Super 400s and the quality is superlative and never to be repeated. Super 400 guitars are a thing of beauty and along with other Gibson Archtops ie. L5s, Byrdlands etc are known as the "Old Masters."
