1963 Blonde Epiphone Frontier FT110N
Mint with original case
The Frontier was Epiphone's answer to the Gibson Dove and is an example of Gibson pushing the boat out to design an Epiphone guitar that could hold its own against anything on the market.
The Gibson Dove with a spruce top and maple back and sides was designed to be both eye catching and have a superior tone, but it was expensive, and sales were not as Gibson had expected. The Gibson Hummingbird on the other hand did sell well. The Hummingbird had an ornate pickguard and was constructed with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. A few Hummingbirds were produced in 1963 with unused Dove bodies. These guitars had spruce tops and maple back and sides. These are known as "Hummingdoves". They are rare and sought after.
This particular '63 Blonde Epiphone Frontier has the early and desirable short headstock, and features the beautiful first year Rope and Cactus western motif pickguard. The Frontier is constructed with a spruce top and maple back and sides and has a 25 1/2 scale. Manufactured in the Gibson Kalamazoo factory of course.
Just over 30 Blonde Frontiers were shipped in 1963 with the early short headstock. (The short headstock was replaced with the more common long headstock at the end of 1963). The Blonde Frontier was Gram Parsons guitar of choice.
This guitar is both rare and in fantastic original condition and comes with its original Epiphone soft shell grey blue lined case. It sounds unbelievable and the frets show hardly any wear whatsoever. It is one of the cleanest Blonde Frontier’s in existence, if not the cleanest.
A fantastic and stunning guitar.
